ORGAN RECITAL SERIES

These free organ concerts have become a yearly event at the Catholic Basilica, popularly known as “The Shrine”. The concert series features some of the best organists from all over the country and the world. The concerts also provide an opportunity to visit the Shrine, the largest Catholic Church in the United States and one of the largest in the world. The Shrine is a breath taking example of classical Byzantine church architecture and houses some outstanding statuary, stained glass windows, frescoes and mosaics. The bell tower is in Romanesque style and is second only to the Washington Monument as the tallest obelisk in Washington. Tours are available throughout the day. A visit to the Shrine and the organ recital makes a relaxing and peaceful end to the day after an iGuide tour or could be incorporated into a private religious site themed tour.
